It was wonderful to see so many of our Gurrie families in the building for Open House! There was such great energy throughout the school as families walked their student’s schedule, visited classrooms, and had the opportunity to get to know their teachers.
Thank you for supporting our Green Team through donations for the fresh produce grown right here in the Gurrie courtyard. We also appreciate everyone who supported our PTO by purchasing candy grams for students. The next morning, it was so great to see students enjoying the messages they received. Every student also received a small snack to help make the morning a little more special.
We are looking forward to a great year together and continuing to build a strong, welcoming Gurrie community!

This week, Gurrie students will complete the i-Ready English assessment on Tuesday and Wednesday.
As a reminder, i-Ready is our new district assessment this year, replacing MAP Growth. The assessment is adaptive, so students may see some questions that feel challenging. That is expected. Students are not supposed to know every answer.
The information from i-Ready will help teachers better understand student strengths and areas for growth so we can plan instruction and support students throughout the year.
Please encourage your student to get a good night’s sleep, take their time, and simply do their best. Our goal is to get an accurate picture of where students are so we can continue supporting their learning and growth. |
This Friday, students will participate in our Activity Fair during FLEX. Students will rotate through the fair, learn about the different activities available at Gurrie, and meet the staff members who sponsor them.
We are lucky to have so many opportunities for students to get involved, try something new, and connect with others. Please encourage your student to find at least one activity, club, or group to be part of this year.
Being involved is such an important part of the middle school experience. It helps students build connections, discover new interests, and strengthen their sense of belonging at Gurrie. We hope every student finds something that brings out a little more Tiger spirit!

Beginning September 15, we will recognize Hispanic Heritage Month at Gurrie. This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the cultures, traditions, histories, and contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities.
Throughout the month, students will have opportunities to learn, celebrate, and recognize the many ways Hispanic culture has helped shape our community and our country. We are proud of the diversity that makes Gurrie such a special place, and we look forward to celebrating together! |
One of our favorite 7th grade traditions is coming up!
On Tuesday, September 22, students will spend the day at Big Time Ninja Gym and Sagawau Learning Center for a fun experience focused on teamwork, problem-solving, physical activity, and collaboration.
The cost is $18 per student. Students should bring a disposable sack lunch, snack, and drink, and wear pants, socks, and gym shoes for both indoor and outdoor activities.
Please submit the permission slip, Big Time Ninja waiver, and payment by Friday, September 18. Students must complete the waiver to participate.

At Gurrie, we recognize that some families may not be able to afford a yearbook. Thanks to the generous financial support of our PTO, we’ve been able to ensure that every student receives one in previous years. If you can purchase your child's yearbook, we kindly ask that you do so. Additionally, please consider purchasing an extra copy to donate. Your contribution will help ensure that every student can enjoy the lasting benefits of having a yearbook.

The people have spoken! After reviewing parent surveys from May last year, we learned that our families want to hear about new ways to boost student self-esteem.
D105 is thrilled to partner with West40 for a workshop on student self-awareness and self-esteem.
Please join us in the Ideal School gymnasium on Thursday, September 24th, as our guest speaker discusses the connection between self-awareness and self-esteem and the many ways they affect your child every day, both inside and outside our school building.

Ticketing Information for Spectators: - Digital tickets can be purchased through GoFan.
Spectator Rules/Agreements: - No bags, backpacks, sports bags, tote bags, duffle bags, etc. will be allowed into the stadium during football games (this applies to students and adults).
- Once you leave the stadium, there is no re-entry allowed (this applies to students and adults).
- No outside beverages are allowed (this applies to students and adults).
- All middle school students and younger children must be accompanied by a paid adult with a ticket/pass who is present at the game for the entire time the child is present (maximum 4 children will be admitted with each adult).
- If there is no adult with students younger than high school age, they will not be allowed into the stadium.
- A child not in the presence of an adult or who cannot find their supervising adult will be required to contact a parent/guardian and be picked up from the game immediately.
We reserve the right to deny admission for failure to comply with the outlined spectator agreements, violation of board policy, or if attendance results in any safety concerns. |
We wrapped up our kickball tournament this week! Congratulations to the 8th grade Swiecicki/Gjoni Advisory, who came out on top after a hard-fought game against the Sullivan/Zillmann Advisory.
The game came down to the final minutes, and both teams showed great teamwork, sportsmanship, energy, and Tiger spirit. Congratulations to all of our students who participated and made the tournament so much fun! |
Last week was a busy and exciting one at Gurrie! - Every Monday Matters held its first meeting of the year. Students learned about upcoming service opportunities, including Project CURE, and ways they can volunteer, help others, and make a difference in our community.
- Green Team met in the Gurrie courtyard, where students helped care for the space, supported our courtyard projects, and earned service hours while working together.
- Gurrie Activity Club met to begin talking about upcoming events at Gurrie. Students had the opportunity to share ideas, get involved in planning, and help make future school events even better.
- Girls Basketball opened the season with an exciting 16 to 7 win over Pleasantdale. Grace, Jane, Mackenzie, and Tatum all recorded baskets, and Sloane led the team with 6 points. We are proud of the way the team competed and represented Gurrie.
- Our boys and girls Cross Country teams both earned wins in their first meet of the season. Damian, Strozak, and Ryker finished 1, 2, and 3 for the boys, while the Schudas finished 1 and 2 overall for the girls. It was a great start to the season and a strong example of effort, teamwork, and Tiger spirit.
