Our students did a great job completing our new iReady Inform assessments in Math and ELA! This was our first time using this assessment, and we are proud of the effort and focus our students showed throughout the process.
The results will provide our teachers with valuable information about what students know and where they may need additional support or challenge. More information about student results will be shared with families in the coming weeks.
This week, our students also had an opportunity to learn about the many clubs, activities, and opportunities available at Gurrie. We encourage every student to get involved in at least one activity this year, and we appreciate your support in encouraging your student to find something that interests them.
Getting involved outside of the classroom can help students build friendships, develop confidence and leadership skills, discover new interests, and strengthen their sense of belonging and connection to school. There truly is something for everyone at Gurrie!

Our students in Every Monday Matters, under the sponsorship of Ms. Zalweska, had the opportunity to volunteer at Project C.U.R.E. Project C.U.R.E. collects donated medical supplies and equipment and prepares them for delivery to hospitals and clinics in communities around the world where they are needed most.
We are proud of our students for giving their time to serve others and represent Gurrie with compassion, teamwork, and Tiger spirit!
Experiences like this are just one of the many reasons Every Monday Matters is such a great club to join. If your student is looking for a way to get involved, meet others, earn service hours, and make a positive difference, we encourage them to check it out!

One of our favorite 7th grade traditions is coming up!
On Tuesday, September 22, students will spend the day at Big Time Ninja Gym and Sagawau Learning Center for a fun experience focused on teamwork, problem-solving, physical activity, and collaboration.
The cost is $18 per student. Students should bring a disposable sack lunch, snack, and drink, and wear pants, socks, and gym shoes for both indoor and outdoor activities.
Please submit the permission slip, Big Time Ninja waiver, and payment by Friday, September 18. Students must complete the waiver to participate.

Our first Gurrie PTO meeting of the year will be held on Tuesday, September 22 at 6:00 PM.
We invite all families to join us, learn more about upcoming events and activities, and find ways to get involved in supporting our students and school community.

The Gurrie PTO is sponsoring TGIF, a fun after-school event for Gurrie 7th and 8th grade students, on Friday, September 25, from 3:25 PM to 5:00 PM.
Students can enjoy Ping-Pong, air hockey, board games, music, and other activities with their classmates.
Tickets are $5 and include admission, a drink, and a snack. Tickets will be sold during lunch on Thursday, September 24, and Friday, September 25. Students must bring a signed parent permission slip in order to purchase a ticket. Tickets will not be sold at the door.
Students must be in attendance during the school day to participate, and all school expectations remain in place during the event. Bus transportation will be available for regular bus riders. Families picking up students should plan to arrive by 5:00 PM.

On October 2, District 105 will partner with Candor Health Education to provide age-appropriate health education programs for our 7th and 8th grade students.
7th Grade: Students will participate in Substance Use Prevention: Influencers. This program focuses on the short-term and long-term risks associated with alcohol, marijuana, and vaping. Students will also explore the influences that can normalize substance use, including social media, advertising, and music.
8th Grade: Students will participate in Teen Sexual Health I. This program provides science-based information about sexual health and also addresses healthy communication, consent, identity, values, and responsible decision-making.
Families are encouraged to review the program information in advance and use the provided resources to support conversations at home. To access the virtual program overviews, visit the Candor Health Parent Program Overview and use the password Parent27.

The people have spoken! After reviewing parent surveys from May last year, we learned that our families want to hear about new ways to boost student self-esteem.
D105 is thrilled to partner with West40 for a workshop on student self-awareness and self-esteem.
Please join us in the Ideal School gymnasium on Thursday, September 24th, as our guest speaker discusses the connection between self-awareness and self-esteem and the many ways they affect your child every day, both inside and outside our school building.

Beginning September 15, we will recognize Hispanic Heritage Month at Gurrie. This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the cultures, traditions, histories, and contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities.
Throughout the month, students will have opportunities to learn, celebrate, and recognize the many ways Hispanic culture has helped shape our community and our country.
We are proud of the diversity that makes Gurrie such a special place, and we look forward to celebrating together!

A yearbook is more than just a keepsake—it’s a way for your child to celebrate and remember their middle school experience. It captures friendships, special moments, and achievements, helping students feel connected and proud of their place in the Gurrie community.

Once again, this year we are offering the option for yearbook customization. This is ONLY available through the ONLINE option, so please place your order on the computer if you would like customization.
At Gurrie, we recognize that some families may not be able to afford a yearbook. Thanks to the generous financial support of our PTO, we’ve been able to ensure that every student receives one in previous years. If you can purchase your child's yearbook, we kindly ask that you do so. Additionally, please consider purchasing an extra copy to donate. Your contribution will help ensure that every student can enjoy the lasting benefits of having a yearbook.

LaIt was another busy week at Gurrie! Here are a few highlights:

Green Team: Students spent time in the Gurrie courtyard helping care for the space while also earning service hours.

Gurrie Activity Club: Students met to share ideas and help plan upcoming Gurrie events and activities.

Concert Band: Band students continued with their lesson schedules and rehearsals as they build their skills throughout the year.

Chamber Orchestra: Orchestra students continued their weekly lessons and preparation for the year ahead.

Cross Country: Our runners continued practicing and competing, showing commitment and perseverance.

Girls Basketball: The team had an exciting week, earning wins over Willow Springs and Highlands before a hard-fought 23 to 20 loss to McClure. The girls showed great resilience in the second half, holding McClure to just three points and battling all the way to the end.
It is great to see our students getting involved, trying new things, and showing their Tiger spirit throughout the school!
