A large group of people in white shirts form the letters 'GMB' on a grassy field.
Extracurricular activities play a vital role in middle school development. Whether it’s sports, music, art, clubs, or service projects, these activities give students opportunities to explore their interests, develop new skills, and build lasting friendships.

Research shows that students who participate in extracurriculars often demonstrate stronger time-management skills, higher academic achievement, and a greater sense of belonging at school.

At Gurrie, we encourage every student to get involved in at least one activity. Being part of a team or club not only strengthens their connection to school, but also helps them grow into confident, responsible, and engaged community members.

Proud to be a Tiger!

Reminder: Picture Day is this Friday!
Students will be called down by grade level throughout the morning to have their pictures taken. Please remind your child to dress neatly and bring their best smile!

September 9th Gurrie Open-House
We’re excited to welcome you to our Open House on Tuesday, September 9 at 6:00 PM! The evening will begin in the gym with a quick introduction and an overview of each department’s curriculum.

Next, parents will head to their child’s advisory classroom for a short overview of advisory and to pick up their student’s schedule. After that, you’ll have the chance to follow your student’s day, visiting classrooms and meeting the teachers who will be guiding their learning this year. This is an Open House, a great opportunity to get to know Gurrie and connect with our staff. Please note that it is not a parent-teacher conference, as teachers are still getting to know your child and won’t yet have detailed academic progress to share.

We look forward to seeing you on Tuesday, September 9 for a fun and engaging evening at Gurrie!

D105 Foundation Family Night

Open Library
The Gurrie library is open before and after school! Doors open at 7:30 a.m., providing a quiet space for students to do homework, read, or spend time with friends. After school, you can get homework help, enjoy a good book, or hang out with friends and then take the 4:00 p.m. activity bus home.

ACES and TST
ACES is a space where students can stop by the library to receive extra academic support. No sign-up needed. Teachers are available to help with any subject. Students may also use this time to study or read.

Tiger Support Time (TST) is designed for students who need additional time and support to complete assignments. Teachers may assign students to TST if work is missing or incomplete. Parents will receive a phone call if their student is signed up.

Both programs run until 4:00 PM. Students who ride the bus may take the late activity bus home.

Importance of Attendance

Attendance matters! Research indicates that students who attend school regularly are more likely to succeed academically, remain engaged, and form strong social connections. Missing just one day a month can add up and affect learning over time. At Gurrie, we recognize the power of showing up. Students who maintain a 95% attendance rate over their two years earn a special blue and gold cord to wear proudly at graduation. Let’s work together to make every day count!

Pick up and Drop off
To help keep our students safe during arrival, traffic on Spring Avenue between 53rd Street and 52nd Street will be one-way (south to north) from 8:00–8:30 am on school days.
  • During this time, vehicles will not be able to travel southbound on Spring Avenue between 52nd and 53rd.
  • At 8:30 am, the street will return to normal two-way traffic.
  • A barricade will be placed at the corner of Spring Avenue and 52nd at 8:00 am and removed at 8:30 am.
We also ask families to follow all traffic laws:
  • Do not pass a school bus while students are getting off.
  • If the bus has its stop sign extended, please wait until the sign is retracted before moving forward.
Thank you for your cooperation in helping us keep all students safe!

Parking around the School
At Gurrie, we are fortunate to be part of such an amazing community, and we want to continue being good neighbors. During drop-off, pick-up, and school events, please be mindful not to block driveways when parking. This helps us avoid any tickets for our families and keeps things running smoothly for everyone.

Thank you for your cooperation and for helping us take care of our community!

Policy on Outside Food Deliveries
We understand that sometimes you may need to drop off your child's lunch. We have a table in the entry hall where parents can leave lunches.

In previous school years, we've noticed an increase in food deliveries from services like Uber Eats, DoorDash, and other commercial delivery companies. Many times, these deliveries arrive after the student lunch period, leaving students without enough time to eat. Additionally, our front desk team is unable to manage these deliveries. To help things run smoothly, we do not accept outside food deliveries from companies like Uber Eats, DoorDash, or similar services. Please make sure your student either brings their lunch from home or enjoys the school lunch available to them. We appreciate your understanding and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Sport Spectators

We warmly welcome students, parents, and community members to join us in cheering on our Tiger teams! To keep our students safe and ensure that parents know where their children are, we have the following policy in place:
  • Students who plan to attend the game should remain in the school building after dismissal. This allows us to supervise them continuously until the game begins.
  • If a student leaves the building after school, we are unable to monitor their whereabouts between dismissal and game time. For safety reasons, students who leave the building may only re-enter for the game if they are accompanied by a parent or guardian. Parents/guardian does need to stay with the student bust must accompany them back into the building and inform the game supervisor.
Thank you for helping us make Gurrie students and games safe and enjoyable for everyone!
